HEALTHY MARRIAGES TODAY

Dr. Wayde Goodall Around the world there's a lot of confusion about what is a marriage, what is a healthy marriage? But I believe that every human being is created to have a desire to be married and some have a desire to be single. But most of you want to be married. So what does a healthy marriage look like, and why is there so much confusion about this topic of marriage and family? Well there are three things that you need to understand when you get married. One, is the whole idea of commitment. Commitment for the rest of your life to this one person. Now it's an investment of your life into them but it's an investment of their life into your life. And so you make each other lives even better. I often tell people that when they get married and they know the Lord as their God than they have a triune relationship. They have the husband and they have the wife and they have God involved. And so this relationship really works because of that overall relationship. Thr

WANT YOUR MARRIAGE TO LAST? GET PREMARITAL COUNSELING

by  AMAL KILLAWI  | Originally posted in February 2012 I spent my time at a recent wedding listening to people’s marriage problems. As the guests danced the night away in celebration, I sat in the back of the hall talking about shattered dreams and unfulfilled expectations. Sometimes, we had to scream to hear each other over the music. There was the young woman whose husband wouldn’t let her finish her education. Then, a friend wanted advice about dealing with her in-laws. And a mother cried as she shared her worries about welcoming her daughter home as a divorcee. What a night! The reception ended with the passing of favors and  du`a ’ (supplication) for the newlyweds. I remember making extra  du`a’  for the bride and groom.   Dear God, please bless them with a lasting and healthy union. Ameen.  I left the wedding in deep thought and had trouble falling asleep that night. I was so moved by the irony of that experience. In just the past few months, a significant number

Brain drain in states barring gay marriage

Now that we have become what the Human Rights Campaign calls "two Americas" when it comes to gay rights, could a gay and lesbian "brain drain" away from states that ban same-sex marriage be far behind? It was telling that 278 of America's top corporations and municipalities were so worried about losing talented gay and lesbian workers that they   filed briefs   with the U.S. Supreme Court urging the justices to take the action they did: throwing out California's Proposition 8 and gutting the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Several of those companies were concerned about losing LGBT workers with foreign-born partners, prompting the companies to write a   letter to Congress   saying, "We cannot afford to lose our most precious resource: talent." And that talent is apparently already being lost, due to an LGBT job flight that began even before the Supreme Court's rulings. The Michigan Civil Rights Commission published a   report   ear

Global poll sees China rising, but high marks for US

Associated Press The world increasingly believes China will become the top superpower but the United States enjoys a better image in most regions, according to a poll released Thursday. A 39-nation study by the Pew Research Center found that the United States is still enjoying the boost to its reputation that followed the election of President Barack Obama, except in a number of Islamic nations where Washington remains widely disliked. The survey, the US-based center's largest since 2007, found growing criticism of China in most of East Asia and Europe. "However, even in many countries where America is still seen as the top economic power, most believe China will someday become the leading overall superpower," the study said. In Western Europe, the public in all countries polled except Italy, where the United States was especially popular, believed that China has topped or has already surpassed the United States "as the world's leading superpower.

Zimbabwean Minister calls for female 'sex boycott'

Cabinet Minister Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga has urged Zimbabwean women to embark on a sex strike in a bid to force their husbands to register to vote. Reuters A trend of mainly female voters has been identified and a radical solution has been set in motion. Zimbabwean women may flock to polls come election time, however their male counterparts are not as enthusiastic. This disparity may change in the African country's upcoming elections at the end of this month, after a female government minister called on women to withhold sex from their partners, unless they register to vote. Priscilla, Minister of Regional Integration and International Cooperation has decided to take a stand and is urging her fellow women to join her, with the hope that men will vote to avoid the proposed 'sex boycott'. All Africa quotes her in saying, "You are basically saying to your partners, we are all suffering the same way. We need to make a difference. I am not aski

ERDOGAN REFUSES TO SPEAK TO EGYPT'S ELBARADEI

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has refused to speak to Egypt's new Vice-President Mohamed ElBaradei, the latest broadside in a spat that erupted after the military coup in the Arab world's most populous country. Erdogan infuriated Egypt's interim leaders after he voiced support for ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. "How could I speak to you? You were not elected, you were appointed by the orchestrators of a coup," he said on Wednesday, addressing ElBaradei in remarks carried on CNN-Turk's website. ElBaradei, a prominent liberal and former head of the UN nuclear watchdog, was sworn in on Sunday as part of a new cabinet appointed after the July 3 military overthrow of Morsi. Erdogan, leader of the Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP), had branded the coup as an "enemy of democracy" and said Morsi was the only legitimate president of Egypt. He said he had received a letter from ElBaradei seek

Speaking on the new iOS 7 beta

A Thicker Hope July 8, 2013  iOS 7 beta 3 came out thiss morning with a surprisingly major change: as I first saw reported by Sebastiaan de With  and later more specificially  identified by Neven Mrgan , the system font has allegedly been changed from Helvetica Neue Light to Helvetica Neue (regular). 1  Compare: It’s a subtle change in theory, but it has a huge effect — see for yourself. This paragraph is in Helvetica Neue Light if you’re on a device that has the Helvetica Neue family. (If not, you probably don’t care about fonts, so it will be Comic Sans.)
